Code of Conduct
A safe, welcoming event for everyone
The short version: Be excellent to each other. BSides Burlington is a harassment-free space for everyone. Harassment of any kind is not tolerated, and organisers may take any action they deem appropriate — including removal from the event.
Our commitment
BSides Burlington is dedicated to providing a harassment-free and inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, level of experience, or technology choices.
Expected behaviour
- Be respectful, considerate, and collaborative
- Welcome newcomers and help others feel included
- Respect the venue, the staff, and your fellow attendees
- Get explicit consent before photographing or recording someone
Unacceptable behaviour
Harassment includes, but is not limited to: offensive comments related to any of the characteristics above; deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following; unwelcome photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all event spaces — talks, workshops, the CTF, social areas, online channels, and any associated social events.
Reporting & enforcement
If you experience or witness unacceptable behaviour, please contact a member of staff (look for clearly identified organisers) or email info@bsidesburlington.ca. Reports will be handled discreetly. Organisers will help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. Organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including removal from the event without refund.
Adapted from the BSides community and the wider conference Code of Conduct tradition.
